NPS Human Resources Hosts Federal Health Fair
By Kenneth Stewart
The NPS Human Resources Office hosted a federal health fair for civilian employees in the La Novia Room, Nov. 6. The informational fair brought together representatives from the major health, vision and dental insurers that have contracted with the federal government to provide benefits to its employees. The event was scheduled to coincide with Federal Benefits Open Season during which employees may elect to enroll in or change their existing federal insurance provider.
This year’s Federal Benefits Open Season runs from Nov. 12 through Dec. 10. Employee who choose to acquire new insurance or to change insurance providers during federal open season may make their election at https://www.benefeds.com/.
“Bringing together these vendors increases the insurance options available to federal employees,” said Deputy Human Resources Director Jennifer Amorin. “Every employee’s individual insurance needs are different, there is no one-size-fits-all insurance option. That is why it is so important to bring in a variety of insurers that can work with employees to meet their and their family’s insurance needs.
“We will also be hosting two health benefits overviews where we will be discussing benefits options and answering employee questions,” continued Amorin. “The benefits overviews will be held Nov. 9 at 11:30 a.m. and Nov. 15 at 2:45 p.m. in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Auditorium.”
This year’s health fair was particularly relevant to military retirees due to the decision to no longer provide military retirees with vision and dental benefits through Tricare beginning, Dec. 31.
“Military retirees may now choose from a variety of vision and dental carriers through the Federal Employee Vision and Dental Insurance program,” said Human Resources Specialist Cindy Dunn who along with HRO Intern Cassidy Dawczak represented HRO at the Benefits Fair.
“There are a lot of options out there,” said Dawczak. “We are excited for the opportunity to help our workforce enroll in the plan that best meets their needs.”
