Exports in the Workplace
During your daily routine, you may have need for explicit advice regarding whether your research does have export control concerns. NPS’s creation of a “sensitive subjects list” or SCL is designed to give NPS researchers confidence whether they have export control concerns. Thus, if a NPS research area is not listed as part of the SCL, nor has been identified by your sponsor as an export control area, you are safe to assume that is not an area of export control concern. For those NPS researchers that are working in portions of the SCL, however, what recourse do you have to help identify whether your research is or is not export control without immediately seeking assistance from SMEs here at NPS and other Federal agencies?
With permission of the Stanford University Export Control Officer, we have access to an online Export Control Decision Tree in an effort to help you determine whether your research is export controlled.
