Naval War College (NWC) President Rear Adm. Jeff Harley spent a day at the Naval Postgraduate School, Feb. 9, to connect with his faculty in the NWC Monterey program. Harley also took time during his visit to confer with multiple NPS faculty and leadership regarding possible collaborative efforts between the NWC and NPS.
"Rear Adm. Harley discussed ongoing initiatives at NWC and received a brief on NWC at NPS operations, where over 40 percent of the college's non-resident Command and Staff diplomas are awarded," said NWC Monterey Chair Dr. Fred Drake. "He was also briefed on some of the collaborative efforts between NWC and NPS faculty here on the NPS campus.
"Rear Adm. Harley was able to meet with Dr. Jeff Appleget, who heads up the NPS Wargaming Hub, to discuss their efforts," Drake continued. "He also met with Cmdr. Zac Staples, the Associate Chair of Operations in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to discuss efforts to collaborate on core elements that both institutions will introduce in efforts to teach cyber operations."
During his visit, Harley took the opportunity to express his appreciation for staff and faculty who had dedicated many years to the Naval War College, and recognized them for their time and effort with certificates of recognition.
"One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of longevity awards to three of our NWC at NPS faculty members – Dr. Harold Blanton, 20 years; Dr. Jonathan Czarnecki, 15 years; and, Professor Randall Hess, 15 years," said Drake.
