GSBPP Bids Farewell to Associate Dean Capt. James Hitt

By MC2 Victoria Ochoa

Capt. James "Jim" Hitt and wife Stephanie are pictured during his retirement ceremony in Ingersoll Hall, April 5. During his time at NPS, Hitt wore many hats, one of them being Military Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Business and Public Policy (GSBPP) as well as Chair of the End Strength Working Group during a critical time in NPS' history.

GSBPP Program Officer Cmdr. Todd Sinclair began the ceremony and thanked the attendees for being present.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentleman, welcome to today's award presentation and retirement ceremony for Captain Jim Hitt honoring his 30 years of active duty and dedicated service in the United States Navy," said Sinclair. "I would like to start today by highlighting Captain Hitt's 30 years of service starting in June of 1987, where he graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Computer Science and Math and was commissioned from the UC Berkley NROTC Unit."

Sinclair then turned the stand over to NPS President retired Vice Adm. Ronald A. Route.

"I don't think any Legion of Merit was harder earned," said Route. "[Hitt] has been there since the start of this journey that we have been on, and as you know it was successful and that was in great part to his hard work as part of the team that worked so hard on the End Strength Working Group, and I sincerely thank you for that."

Dean of GSPBB Bill Gates also spoke during the retirement and shared some words with Hitt and those in attendance.

"Jim has done a lot to support us and he has brought a sense of professionalism and calmness as military associate dean here, and all of his hard work is much appreciated, we will miss you but wish you well," said Gates.

Hitt then began his final remarks to thank those who he had served with and worked alongside during his time at NPS as well as his loved ones.

"All of the references towards my bio and awards are missing one thing, my wife, Stephanie," said Hitt. "She took care of our daughter and the home front while I have been gone and has been my greatest supporter."

Hitt concluded his remarks by thanking those he had worked with and concluded the ceremony by presenting his wife with flowers.
